Acquiring a Medicinal Marijuana Card

David Lane - Monday, March 08, 2010

Many potential patients may neglect Colorado medical marijuana because they are either afraid or ignorant to the process. Acquiring a Colorado medical marijuana card is simple if done correctly. One major pitfall the patient needs to avoid is illegitimate businesses and physicians. There are a plethora of doctors and offices to choose from, but a large percentage of offices are running without proper licensing and certification. This website, in contrast, is an excellent resource for patients looking for direction. One would be well advised to use the contact information provided on this very website; all physicians are qualified and certified. In addition, the office is centrally located and in compliance to all current law and code. Nothing is more frustrating to a patient than going through the trouble of acquiring a Colorado medical marijuana card only to find out they unknowingly received it illegally. Beware of cheap and flighty offices. Using this website and the physicians herein employed will guarantee a smooth transaction and experience as well as a completely legal Colorado medical marijuana card.

Aspen Celebrates Legitimate Growers

David Lane - Tuesday, January 26, 2010

The first Western Slope Cannabis Crown will be held in Aspen this April celebrating the legitimacy of medicinal marijuana in Colorado. Over fifty growers are expected to enter strains of Colorado marijuana into the contest. Samples will be judged on THC levels as well as aesthetic properties such as flavor. Alternate forms of medical marijuana, such as edibles, will be entered as well. Samples will only be provided to Colorado medicinal marijuana card holders, of course. Cannabis fairs such as this are not an excuse to abuse the law, according to city officials and fair organizers. Instead, it is simply a way of sharing product, giving patients new options, and perhaps opening the minds of skeptics to the benefits of Colorado medical marijuana. A similar cannabis convention was recently proposed and denied in the town of Nederland. Nevertheless, this could be another example of Colorado medical marijuana slowly becoming accepted by the public.

Decriminalization Gaining Ground

David Lane - Saturday, January 23, 2010
Currently, Colorado medical marijuana law prohibits possession of cannabis on a state level.  However, cities such as Breckenridge have already passed city laws that have legalized possession even for people who do not have a Colorado medical marijuana card. Other cities such as Aspen, Leadville, and Nederland are proposing similar decriminalization laws. Even though possession of Medical marijuana in Colorado will remain illegal to the state, there is a noticeable relaxation among the public when it comes to Colorado medicinal marijuana.  Although the subject remains controversial, it is certainly no longer taboo.  Decriminalizing laws are another example of Colorado marijuana becoming more accepted among the public. Perhaps these new laws will open the door for common acceptance of medical marijuana in Colorado for both the public and lawmakers.

2. Majority of Colorado Medical Marijuana Prescriptions Written by 15 Doctors in the State

David Lane - Monday, December 28, 2009
Recent data gathered from the Colorado Medical Marijuana Registry as of December 15th showed that 73% of all medical marijuana recommendations were written by just 15 doctors and just five have authorized 49% of all recommendations. More interestingly, many of these doctors have been barred from writing other prescriptions and operate on restricted licenses. The Colorado Department of Public Health estimates that since the induction of the Colorado Medical Marijuana Law, the number of people who have applied for Colorado medical marijuana cards has risen to approximately 30,000 people and that number is growing daily. County commissioners in the state are concerned that this growing number may indicate potential abuse to the current laws and some counties have begun instituting moratoriums and bans inside city limits in an attempt to curb the wildly growing industry. While some dispensary owners are against these regulations, there are others who fully support the direction lawmakers are heading and are making concentrated efforts to join forces with officials to help construct reasonable laws that will benefit both sides.

Avoid Simple Mistakes In Medical Marijuana Card Applications

David Lane - Monday, December 14, 2009

Applicants who are trying to obtain Colorado medical marijuana cards may have recently had their applications returned to them due to simple, avoidable mistakes made when filling out the required forms. According to the Colorado Medical Marijuana Registry, they are returning large amounts of application packets and change request forms due to easily avoidable mistakes. Applicants can prevent the problem by following a checklist of basic items to remember.

  1. First and foremost, always be sure to include a legible photocopy of either your Colorado driver’s license or ID or your caregiver’s driver’s license or ID.
  2. Always use the most current version of the application or change form.
  3. The Medical Marijuana Registry requires that all change of address or caregiver forms be filled out in BLUE ink.
  4. If you are moving, all change of address or caregiver forms must be sent within ten days of the event.
  5. All checks or money orders must be made out for the proper amount of $90 and must be signed. Checks or money orders may only be for one patient.
  6. All patient signatures must be notarized and caregivers are not allowed to be the notary.
  7. All forms that are being sent to the registry must be submitted by the patient. Caregivers and dispensaries are not allowed to submit forms.
  8. When filing your packet, make sure it includes the application form, physician’s certification, copy of the patient or caregiver’s ID and the check or money order for $90. Be sure that all items are sent at the same time and in the same packet. The registry will not be able to process any applications that are not complete and they will be rejected and returned to the patient.

Following these simple guidelines should help patients to obtain their Colorado medical marijuana cards quickly and easily, and avoid any delays.

Possible Treatment of MS Patients in Colorado Through Medical Marijuana

David Lane - Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Colorado medical marijuana users may have another reason for using the drug. According to clinical trials by MS patients who used medical marijuana, medical marijuana was shown to reduce or alleviateMS symptoms including anxiety, pain, ataxia, spasms and depression, and may even slow neurodegeneration associated with MS. In a survey of 112 medical marijuana patients with MS, over 80% reported an improvement in symptoms including anxiety, depression, pain, tremors and spasticity. The Long School of Medicine found in a 2008 study that medical marijuana may also slow neurodegenerative disease progression of MS. As with all diseases, patients may experience different levels of symptoms varying form mild to moderate to severe. Most patients with symptoms who used medical marijuana as part of their treatment plan have experienced some form of relief from use of the drug.

Colorado Marijuana Users Look to Drug to Relieve Fibromyalgia Pain

David Lane - Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain syndrome, can be debilitating. For Colorado medical marijuana users, the answer is simple. Use of the drug in scientific studies has shown that the THC found in marijuana may help decreasechronic pain caused by Fibromyalgia. Other symptoms of the syndrome include hypoglycemia, insomnia, depression, fatigue, urinary complications and skin conditions. Through the use of medical marijuana, Colorado patients are able to effectively manage these other symptoms in addition to managing their pain. Marijuana creates a euphoric effect, which helps lift feelings of depression and is useful for managing insomnia as well. Currently undergoing THC therapy trials is a synthetic marijuana pills known as Nabilone, which has shown to greatly reduce pain and anxiety in Fibromyalgia patients. However, medical marijuana is currently the more cost effective of the two.
